EDUCATION

Pedagogical Integration

Workflow: Creator + Motion + Blender

Now, more and more universities and colleges use Studio Pro to teach the foundations of 3D sculpting.

Learning inside Creator, students truly understand what 3D means in minutes.

One of the first assignments in any creative stream is human anatomy. In addition to traditional 2D PDFs, diagrams, and projected presentations, assignments that involve drawing the form in VR are proven to bring a deeper understanding and higher retention in a shorter time for students.

Learn how leading colleges and universities are integrating Masterpiece Studio Pro today. Contact one of our account managers to tailor a solution for your pedagogical approach. Offer the most cutting-edge technologies to help your students learn intuitively, faster, and creatively.

GAMING

Real-Time Cinematic Storytelling

Workflow: Creator + Motion + Marmoset

When creating narrative cinematics, it is a requirement to have flexible characters and environmental assets that reflect the gameplay to create coherent storytelling. Use the same assets from the game in an animation pipeline in an intuitive, less stressful, and more creative way.

Creator: Explore in real-time the characters in the space with the environmental assets in VR. The tools are in your hands. No need to remember shortcuts on a keyboard or open up multiple windows.

Motion: Less is more here. Adjust bones on the fly, and move the characters in real-time. There are no render ports or views so you can physically manipulate the articulation of a model.

Marmoset: Since it was easy to export from Motion as an FBX or OBJ there was no intermediate step required. All vertex and UV textures were imported instantly. The animation timeline also imports from Motion to Marmoset seamlessly.

TV ANIMATION

Concepting

Workflow: Procreate + Creator + Blender

Place your characters in situ, so personalities have the actual space to develop. You don't need years of 3D experience, just your imagination.

Procreate: Framing a scene is key. We were able to quickly use a pencil to sketch out different thumbnails of the same situation, organize and create a plan for the basic elements of the environment and develop the character dynamics.

Creator: Character story arcs exist in a rich environment that is meant to move a story arc. Jorda Moldes brought the Procreate thumbnails into Creator, sculpted characters and environmental assets all the while placing them in a fully realized VR space to get to the heart of the narrative.

“Once you have your plan, it’s easy to know what to do in virtual reality. Creator is just the sandbox, the creative power comes from you.” - Jorda Moldes

Blender: Once the scene is set and the key pieces are optimized, Moldes brought them into Blender for the final renders.

ANIMATION

Expressive Blendshapes

Workflow: Creator + Motion

You’re immediate, authentic and emotional. So should be your creations. Get your characters acting as they should with our first-to-market Blend Shapes features. Use our blend shape tools so you can understand the truth and intention of your character’s emotional breadth.

Creator: Visualizing and concepting organic features was an enjoyable experience for Ian Crighton. Working in Creator is adding rocket fuel to his process. It enhances the ability to sculpt quickly while returning to imported references intuitively in a full 3D space.

Motion: Even King Kong has a personality. Our Blend Shapes give you the ability to breathe life into the character with expressive motion. Adjust and morph expressions by hand. This is the continuation of sculpting rather than having plug-in code when rigging.

VISUAL ARTS

Painting x 3D Printing

Workflow: Photoshop + Creator + Cura + Traditional Fine Art Techniques

For a 2021 exhibition Liquid Pixel at Studio Sixty Six, artist Brendan A. de Montigny produced mixed media paintings that integrated 3D printed physical objects that were sculpted in Creator.

Photoshop: He first brought in his illustrations and representational drawings in Photoshop and then collages them together into unique digital references.

Creator: With digital reference materials in hand, working in VR allowed Brendan to shape and plan in 3D space by prototyping what the final elements of the piece will look like.

“There are always constraints with traditional materials. For a painter, it’s the width of a brush. A 12 Round has a threshold. The amount of paint you load on that brush will only move around so much surface. Working with Masterpiece Creator has enriched my methodology. What is paint? What is 3D Printed? I have pushed the paintings further because the materials are blurred.” - Brendan A. de Montigny

EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATION

Online Communication

Workflow: Blender + Creator + Motion + Blender

2D to 3D and back again. Offer clients 3D solutions that still have the look and feel of 2D Illustration while letting you iterate versions, angles, and storytelling quickly.

Blender: We storyboarded with Blender’s grease pencil tool.

Creator: Editorial Illustration briefs can vary wildly. Integrating Creator with traditional illustration workflows brings flexibility to explore the world you're depicting from any point-of-view. We cannot overstate the value of this, especially when addressing client feedback!

Motion: Simple. It helps speed up workflow. Take those T-poses and move around the character to the specifications of the storyboard. Less technical barriers mean you have more time to build trust with your clients.

Blender: Final touches. Fairy dust. Lights. Camera. Action.

TOY DESIGN

Collectable Figurine Concept

Workflow: Creator + Substance + Maverick Renderer

Unlike traditional product design workflows, designing a toy with Masterpiece Studio Pro means iterating through concepts without the cost of 3D printing a proof of each version.

Creator: The designer blocked in the character with primitive shapes and used the move tool to build a unique silhouette. Sculpting spatially made it easy to follow the manufacturing requirements. Each body part is modular and easily defined. Next, the model was vertex painted in Creator and is an intuitive way to colour map.

Substance: Creator’s mesh optimization presets meant that the designer did not have to slow down to manual retopo or UV unwrap the model. He imported straight into Substance with the colour map intact, making the final touches easy to apply.

Maverick Render: FBX and OBJs exported from Creator play nicely with Maverick so no need for intermediate apps required.

LIVE-ACTION TV SERIES

Digital Maquette

Workflow: Creator + Substance + Maverick Renderer

Working in visual development for TV budgets means getting through exploratory work fast. You also need to deliver well-thought designs. For this artist, using Masterpiece Studio Pro meant a 6X improvement in both these areas.

Creator: It’s fast. It’s that simple. Over a short period of one working day, the artist created 12 different versions for review with the production team. This was also made possible because the artist was able to skill transfer their 2D experience into VR for a fully transformative approach to maquettes.

Substance: The one-click export to Substance allowed them to rapidly move through texturing and onto the final render.

Maverick Renderer: FBX and OBJs exported from Creator play nicely with Maverick so no need for intermediate apps required.
